More state troopers will be out looking for impaired drivers celebrating New Year's Eve.
Lieutenant William Weirtz with the Canton Post of the State Highway Patrol tells AkronNewsNow.com there will be an additional police presence on the roadways.
"They will be targeting alcohol violations, drunk driving violations, and removing impaired drivers off the roadways before they hurt themselves or anyone else."
Weirtz says there are typically more OVI arrests during New Year's Eve weekend due to people attending parties where there's alcohol and more law enforcement out on the roads.
"Be sure to designate a driver if you plan on drinking this New Year's Eve," says Weirtz.
"If you have been drinking and you cannot drive it's always a good practice to take a cab, with plenty of cab companies offering free rides."
One of those free cab rides is the LifeRide program. The phone number for LifeRide is 330-376-RIDE. The cab will take you home, but won't take you to another bar or party.
