It's nearly "money talks" time for the Akron Public Schools, as district leaders are going out into the community and telling people about the need for Issue 14.

That's the 5.5 mill school levy the Akron district has on the November ballot.

With the election under a month away, Akron superintendent David James says the levy effort is "better organized", compared to the past...but he says potential voters still have some questions.

"Oh, there's always questions," James acknowledged to AkronNewsNow.com, "and again, our message to the public is - we know it's difficult, we certainly understand, but there really is a lot at stake here."

James also says that the district should know results from the annual October head count - which took place last week - sometime this week.

"We did see some increases at our elementary level, at our secondary level we saw some decreases," the superintendent says.  "And of course, we're always concerned about the students who leave the district... who are open enrolling out, or attending charter or community schools."

In total, James says he expects a "slightly smaller decrease" in enrollment once the numbers come out.

As the district hopes to pass its own Issue 14, board members received a presentation for Issue 25, a renewal levy for the Summit County Developmental Disabilities board.

It also heard a tribute to Anthony "Tony" Gorant, a long-time executive with Ohio Edison and Akron General Medical Center who died September 1st.

Gorant headed up the Akron Public Schools' "Business Advisory Council", a group of business executives that helped the district save money.
