Akron Murder Suspect Surrenders

Akron Police say a fugitive sought by the department and the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force has surrendered to police in connection with a recent murder.

Around 10:30am yesterday morning, Lavaile D. Thomas Jr., 25, of Nome Avenue in Akron, turned himself into detectives. Thomas was wanted for a Murder and Felonious Assault that occurred outside 604 East Avenue around 10:30pm on November 19, 2012. Thomas allegedly fired shots into a car, killing Deshawn D. Smith, 18, and injuring Courtney B. Rice, 21.

Thomas’ accomplice, Dierre Laneal Robinson, 23, of Hillwood Avenue in Akron is already in police custody.
