Summa making good on plans we reported last week, shifting from use of licensed practical nurses and some technicians to registered nurses.

The moves are part of Summa's cost-cutting but the hospital's Michael Bernstein says it's targeted more at patient care. 60 jobs overall eliminated. Akron General making a similar move as well recently.

The restructuring focuses on using all registered nurses in the Emergency Room; overall, 60 positions are impacted at Summa's Akron City Hospital. Bernstein told WAKR's Ray Horner Morning Show the workers were notified this week but overall Summa had 200 job openings posted in various functions through it's operations.
