UPDATE 1:30 PM 11/3/12: Crowds are standing in line at the Summit County Board of Elections, as the first weekend day of extended early voting comes to a close.
Those still wanting to cast an early ballot this weekend will be able to so on Sunday afternoon from 1 PM to 5 PM. The final day of early voting will take place from 8 AM until 2 PM on Monday.
(Previous ANN coverage) An extension of early voting means elections workers will have to scramble to get everything ready for traditional voting.
Republicans were the main force pushing to scrap any ideas about early voting Saturay, Sunday and Monday prior to Election Day, but a judge ruled that there is no reason to disallow it. Summit County Board of Elections Director Joe Masich says it will involve more work and that means more money, but the biggest challenge will be to get everything done by 6:30 Tuesday morning, when the polls open countywide.
"After voting stops Monday at 2:00 P.M., we then have to process all those voters, then we have to prepare what's called the supplemental absentee report," said Masich. "We'll be working late into the night on Monday to prepare those reports and distribute them to the precincts."
In addition, elections staffers need to make sure all the voting equipment and supplies are ready to go before the first voter is ready to vote.
The hours you can vote at the Summit County Board of Elections are: Saturday 8:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M., Sunday 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. and Monday 8:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M.
