A new state law has prompted the addition of a series of three-year degree programs at two local universities.
The University of Akron will offer 30 programs and Kent State University selected 22 programs for three-year degrees.
An Ohio budget bill requires the state’s 13 public universities to provide three-year programs for 10 percent of their bachelor degrees by October 15, and 60 percent of their programs by 2014, according to the Ohio Board of Regents.
Students pursuing the three-year option will still need the same number of credits to graduate as those on a four-year track.
