It's been an Akron area institution over the years, through various owners and menu choices but the string ran out on the Olde Harbor Inn on the Portage Lakes today.
Diners, employees and even government officials were caught off guard to find the local restaurant doors closed Wednesday, and late in the evening the owners posted a statement on their website saying they were unable to continue operations due to "tough economic times" that "finally caught up with us.'
Some employees tell AkronNewsNow they had not been paid in three weeks, and owners informed staff members they were running out of money to keep the landmark restaurant known for scenic waterfront dining would not be reopening.

(Olde Harbor Inn - website announcement) After Five Years Of Great Food, Great Entertainment and Great Dockside Dining, We Regretfully Announce Our Closing.
This decision does not come lightly. We have poured our hearts and souls into making this location of one the best spots for seafood and entertainment in Summit County. Unfortunately, the tough economic times we are all experiencing have finally caught up with us, and we are no longer able to remain open for business.
We will truly miss the wonderful patrons and staff who have become our friends and family over the years.
Our Web site will remain temporarily visible in its most recent state as a monument to the past five-and-a-half years. You may reach us by email if needed.
