The United States Department of Education has named 269 schools, nationwide, as Blue Ribbon Schools. Only four are in Ohio and those four are Catholic Elementary schools in the Diocese of Cleveland. Two Akron arera schools made the grade, Holy Family Parish School in Stow, and Our Lady of the Elms Elementary in Akron

Margaret Lyons, the Diocese of Cleveland Secretary for Education/Superintendent reports that this brings to 40, the number of schools in the Diocese of Cleveland which have received the Blue Ribbon designation in recent years.

U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan said, “Schools honored with the National Blue Ribbon Schools award are committed to accelerating student achievement and preparing students for success in college and careers. Their work reflects the conviction that every child has promise and that education is the surest pathway to a strong, secure future.”
