Delegates at the Democratic National Convention are looking forward to tonight's keynote address by First Lady Michelle Obama. That's according to Stow Mayor Sara Drew, who is serving as a delegate.
"Everybody is just really excited to hear Michelle Obama," said Drew. "Everyone loves Mrs. Obama. She's a very popular figure and it's very exciting to see her."
While the delegates are there to cast their votes to officially nominate President Obama as the party's choice for this year's election, Drew says the political conventions are only partly about politics or the presidential election.
"For local officials, it's a great opportunity to network with people from across the state and across the country, exchange ideas, talk about what's working in our communities and what we can collaborate on or do differently to serve our residents better," said Drew.
Drew says there's a lot of talk at the convention center about Ohio's role in the presidential race as well as the race between Senator Sherrod Brown and Treasurer Josh Mandel for US Senate.
