Kent State University officials are starting to give the campus and the greater community a peek at a $700 million renovation plan.
Faculty, staff and students along with city, county and state officials were invited today to see displays and hear descriptions of a plan that KSU President Lester Lefton said will change the landscape of the campus for the next 100 years, a sentiment echoed by many others in the room.
"They're not going to recognize the campus in three years," said Associate Vice President of Facilities Planning and Operations Tom Euclide. "It's going to be a remarkable change. Transformational is really the only word that can really describe how we're connecting the campus to downtown and then renovating everything in between."
KSU will contribute $170 million. The other $530 million comes from various partnerships, including Portage County and the state of Ohio.
Architecture, Environmental Design, Applied Engineering and Art among the many courses of study that will benefit the most by having new buildings.
Euclide says construction will be noticeable next Spring.
