Another week long closure begins this week for motorists who use the Kenmore Leg.
The Ohio Department of Transportation will close the westbound lanes of 76 West starting today between I-77 and I-277 for one week.
The following ramp closures will also be in place with the closure:
· East Ave. exit ramp from I-76 west/ I-77 north. The detour is I-77 north to SR 261 (V. Odom Blvd.) to Frederick Blvd. to SR 261 (V. Odom Blvd) to East Ave.
· I-77 north to I-76 west (Kenmore Leg). The detour is I-77 north to SR 21 South. Traffic coming from the Central Interchange or Downtown Akron can use I-77 south to I-277/US 224 west.
· I-77 south to I-76 west (Kenmore Leg). The detour is I-77 south to I-277/US 224 west.
This part of $13.2 million project to resurface I-277, I-76 and US 224 from the Kenmore Leg to I-77 and continuing on US 224 to just east of Kelly Avenue along with various bridge work to 18 structures. The entire project is scheduled for completion in late October 2013.
ODOT District 4 Spokesman Brent Kovacs says this portion of the $13.2 million project will be the final complete closure in 2012.
Kovacs says the complete closure provides construction crews safety and and complete access to the roadways.
"If they did this project with just lane restrictions , it would take them over two year to complete this project," Kovacs said.
The westbound lanes of the Kenmore leg are expected to reopen August 13th.
