An arrest in the hit-skip death of a Springfield Township teenager.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reports they picked up a Mogadore woman they've charged with the killing of 16-year old Anthony Weakland of Springfield Township July 17, 2012, while he and a friend were walking along Albrecht Avenue that evening.
Dianna L. Vandyne of Mogadore, 46, was taken into custody without incident Thursday, on a warrant issued by Akron Municipal Court. She was arrested when she was stopped around 4 p.m. on Trares Road in Portage County, and her home address is just four miles from the spot where police say she hit and killed Weakland, and then left him there.
She's being held in the Summit County Jail pending arraignment, charged with tampering with evidence and felony hit-skip.
Just this past Monday, the state patrol thought they had the vehicle but were awaiting forensic tests to confirm it was the one they were looking for. Vandyne was taken into custody by State Troopers without incident.
A memorial vigil drew so many family, friends and well-wishers that police blocked off a portion of the road to accommodate the large crowd.
