A 12-year-old racer from Alaska only suffered minor scrapes and cuts after his Soap Box Derby car crashed during a test run Tuesday.

The Beacon Journal reports the Brenner Furlong's car struck a gaurdrail and flipped over after he crossed the finish line down Akron's Derby Downs around noon.

Furlong hopes his car can be repaired in time to race in the All-American Soap Box Derby.

Derby officials say it's unusual for a car to flip over, but Furlong hit the guardrail head on.
