A motorcyclist was killed in Jackson Township Tuesday night after he crashed into two poles near a shopping center.

Jackson Township police said Justin Zickafoose, 26, of Canton, lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into two utility poles near a Belden Center shopping plaza on Dressler Road around 10 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Chief Dave Zink said it appears Zickafoose was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash and was driving above the posted speed limit at 35 mph.

Zink reminds motorcyclists to make safety a top priority.

"Wear a helmet. They certainly do save lives," said Zink. "Adhere to the posted speed limits and drive defensively."
