A 26-year-old Canton man drowned Saturday after he was swimming with his 5-year-old child at Berlin Reservoir in Mahoning County.

Sheriff deputies tell WKYC Channel 3 Cory Lowder was trying to keep his child above water while swimming to a sandbar.

A visitor near the area jumped in the water and pulled the 5-year-old to safety.

Lowder went under water before he could be rescued.
