A Summit County judge has approved a new trial for 50-year-old Dewey Jones of Akron after recent DNA tests failed to link him to a 1993 murder.

Common Pleas Judge Mary Margaret Rowland handed in her decision Monday and stated the lack of Jones' DNA and another police suspect at the crime scene leaves unanswered questions in the case.

Since his conviction in 1995, Dewey Jones has claimed he did not kill 71-year-old Neil Rankin at his Independence Avenue home in February of 1993. Rankin was bound with rope and shot twice in the head.
