A Norton woman is now in the intensive care unit after her hair got caught in a machine.late Monday night
News Channel 5 reports 25-year old Monica Thayer got her hair caught in a machine used to cut steel tubing while removing parts and metal shavings at JR Engineering on 9th Street NW in Barberton around 11 p.m.
The accident removed most of her scalp from her head, which doctors have reattached. Plastic surgery will be used to repair the rest.
She has worked at the company for less than a week.
Barberton fire officials say it took about 20 minutes to get Thayer extracted from the machine before she was flown to Akron General Medical Center where she remains in ICU.
Her mother tells Channel 5 that even though she's been able to speak with her and other relatives, she doesn't get the full scope on what happened to her.
Mary Thayer says more training is needed at the plant to make sure that something like this doesn't happen to anybody else.
