After a video was posted on YouTube showing Akron police officers kicking and tackling suspects after a bar fight outside the Barley House, questions surround the incident on whether officers used excessive force.

(NewsNet 5 WEWS report)

It happened at the Barley House in the 200 block of South Main Street on Saturday night.

Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards is defending the officers actions and explains that the YouTube video did not show the whole story and a city video captured the entire incident.

"They were consistently, continuously resisting with the officers outside after they were given numerous warnings to leave the establishment," says Edwards.

Edwards says the suspects began fighting inside the bar then were told to leave. They continued to fight outside and Edwards says the two officers tried to control the fight.

"From the initial onset of this, the officers were well within their training. They responded to their training by using the necessary uses of force that was appropriate," says Edwards.

Four suspects were arrested and charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Edwards says that since the officers used force in the incident, they will be under review.
