Akron Police have solved a case of teens trying to rob children.Around 4:00 Tuesday afternoon, officers responded to a robbery call near Stelter Avenue and Albrecht Avenue involving three 11 and 12 year old boys. The victims reported they were walking to the school yard to play when they were approached by two suspects. One suspect pulled out a gun and then patted the victim’s pockets looking for their belongings. The suspects fled without taking anything.
Lieutenant Rick Edwards says two hours later officers responded to a call at High Grove Boulevard and Ellet Avenue where two girls, 14 and 15 years old, reported two teen-age boys approached them with a handgun. One suspect pointed the gun at the victims; however, never attempted to rob them.
Officers then located the two suspects involved in both gun calls at Terrace Avenue and South Canton Road. Officers arrested two boys 15, and 16 years old. They face charges ranging from robbery and carrying a concealed weapon to aggravated menacing and receiving stolen property.
Officers recovered a loaded .45 caliber handgun found in one suspect's waistband. The boys were placed in the custody of the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
