Akron firefighters rescued two children trapped in a burning home early Monday morning.
The fire happened around 12:30 a.m. when Akron police officers were first to the scene. They were informed that two children were still inside the burning home on 1463 Beardsley Street.
Akron police officers were unable to enter the burning home due to heavy smoke.
Akron Fire Captain Bill Howe explained that firefighters rescued a 5-year-old from the basement and a 3-year-old child who was found on the second floor not breathing.
"He was handed off to me. I gave him mouth to mouth and I ran down the street and handed him off to the paramedics waiting in the corner," says Captain Howe.
Captain Howe explains that in total, there were four children and two adults, including the mother and father. The four kids were treated and transported to Akron Children's Hospital .
Akron Fire Captain Howe says he is happy with the work his firefighters accomplished.
"The guys did a good job putting the fire out and an even better job locating those kids and getting them out," says Howe
Fire investigators believe the fire was started from a stove that was left on.
The home is not a total loss and only had internal damages.
