Grief counselors are on hand as students, staff and faculty cope with the shooting death of Kenmore High School Junior Willie Brewer III.
Brewer was gunned down Friday afternoon along Copley Road following what has only been described so far as "an altercation."
Akron Public Schools Superintendent David James says the district's crisis intervention team plays an important role.
"If someone needs to talk, if they're upset or distraught, our counselors or psychologists can be there to listen," said James.
Dealing with sudden death can always be traumatizing, but James says it's especially difficult for young people dealing with the death of one of their own.
"It's just very upsetting when a young person loses their life and hasn't really had a chance to live life yet," said James.
James says the school district is cooperating in full with Akron police as they continue to investigate the teen's homicide.
Funeral arrangements are pending with Sommerville Funeral Services.
