Troopers say a man who overdosed on opiates was revived by a trooper and a nursing student at a Burger King in Canton Wednesday night.
The Canton Post of the State Highway Patrol reports Trooper M.B. Claxon was helping ODOT with traffic control near Raff Road and Southway Street shortly before 9 p.m. when a man ran into the intersection yelling for help.
Claxon found a 21-year-old Apple Creek man unresponsive in a car stopped at the Burger King drive-thru.
DeAnna Patterson, a nursing student who was a customer at Burger King, tried to get a response from the driver. The man was foaming at the mouth and his lips were blue. Patterson said she could not find a heartbeat and could tell the man was not breathing.
The trooper provided rescue breathing as Patterson began chest compressions. The driver was breathing on his own after 2 to 3 minutes.
The passenger told the trooper that the 21-year-old man may have overdosed on opiates.
The driver was taken to Aultman Hospital.
