A Canton teenager is now hospitalized after a gunfight erupted Wednesday afternoon.
News Channel 5 is reporting 14-year-old Tavasia Chester is listed in satisfactory condition after being shot in both of her legs at 17th Street and Rowland Avenue NE in Canton.
Dartanynan Jones, one of Chester's neighbors ran over from his garage to help her once she was hit by the gunfire.
"My heart went out to her. She was calling out to me, talking about, 'Please help me. Please. Please help me.'"
Jones said he couldn't sleep last night thinking about the innocent girl, who appeared to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"All I can hear is just her voice over in my mind over and over and over again," Jones said.
Canton Police and neighbors said Chester, a freshman at Timken High School, was walking to get a math book from a friend's house around 5 p.m. Wednesday.
At the same time, police say there was an altercation between two groups of people and more than two people were shooting at one another.
Bullets were reportedly flying Gibbs Avenue NE and Barton Place NE. A vehicle on Barton Place was also struck by gunfire. No one was hurt at any of those venues.
Another teenager, 19 year old Javawn Moore was also hit multiple times in the abdomen. There is no update on Moore's condition as of yet, but Canton police say his injuries are not life threatening.
