Heavy Rain, Possible Flooding Expected

The possibility of heavy rain in showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and evening has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Flood Watch for most of northern Ohio through this evening...

  FOLLOWING AREAS...IN OHIO...ASHLAND...ASHTABULA INLAND...
  ASHTABULA LAKESHORE...CRAWFORD...CUYAHOGA...ERIE OH...GEAUGA...
   HANCOCK...HOLMES...HURON...KNOX...LAKE...LORAIN...LUCAS...
  MAHONING...MARION...MEDINA...MORROW...OTTAWA...PORTAGE...
  RICHLAND...SANDUSKY...SENECA...STARK...SUMMIT...TRUMBULL...
  WAYNE...WOOD AND WYANDOT. IN NORTHWEST PENNSYLVANIA...CRAWFORD
  PA...NORTHERN ERIE AND SOUTHERN ERIE.

* THROUGH THIS EVENING

* AN UPPER LEVEL LOW WILL MOVE ACROSS NORTHERN OHIO AND
  NORTHWESTERN PENNSYLVANIA THIS AFTERNOON. LIFT FROM THIS STORM
  SYSTEM COMBINED WITH HIGH MOISTURE LEVELS WILL LEAD TO THE
  POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY RAINFALL. THE HEAVY RAIN FROM THESE SLOW
  MOVING THUNDERSTORMS OVER THE ALREADY SATURATED GROUND WILL LEAD
  TO RAPID RUNOFF.

* RUNOFF FROM THE HEAVY RAINFALL WILL QUICKLY FILL LOW LYING AND
  POOR DRAINAGE AREAS. CREEKS AND RIVERS WILL LIKELY SEE RISES
  AND COULD FLOW FROM THEIR BANKS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A FLOOD WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR FLOODING BASED ON
CURRENT FORECASTS. YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE
ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO
FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING

Mike Ward has been a radio news reporter and anchor for over 20 years, for a variety of stations in Ohio, Virginia, and California. For seven years, he was a news reporter and anchor for Sacramento's top-rated news/talk station, KFBK, and was also news director for WFIR in Roanoke, Virginia.  He's also been heard on Cleveland stations. Mike has a special interest in technology, and was a regular on the nationally syndicated radio show "On Computers with Gina Smith". Despite his out-of-area experience, Mike is an Akron native.
