Akron Police have arrested three suspects involved in the robbery/kidnapping of a woman on North Highland Avenue in December.
Detectives are still searching for a fourth male suspect in the incident that took place on Dec. 22.
The suspects were identified from a bank surveillance video.
After seeing the surveillance photo, officers from the University of Akron Police Department notified Akron police detectives that they recognized one of the suspects, Evin Collins, 21, of Akron, because they had arrested him earlier in the day on a charge of receiving stolen property.
Collins was later identified by the Akron Police Department as the driver involved in the December 22 robbery and kidnapping.
Officers say they found credit cards taken in an unrelated robbery in Collins’ possession.
Collins was booked into the Summit County Jail. University Police were also able to identify the other three males that were involved in the December 22 incident.
Detectives also arrested Tony D. Smith Jr., 17, and Ja’Relle J. Smith, 16, both of Madison Avenue in Akron. They were charged with aggravated robbery and kidnapping. Collins was booked into the Summit County Jail and the Smith brothers were placed into the custody of the Summit County Juvenile Detention Center.
Additional charges are expected.
Detectives are asking the public for help in locating the fourth suspect--Demico Smith.
Smith is a 21-year old, black male, 5’11” and 190 pounds. If you know of his whereabouts, please contact the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau, the U.S. Marshals Service, Summit County Crimestoppers or you may leave an anonymous tip on the Akron Police Department website.
