A 15-year-old Ravenna Township girl who had just started driving with her temporary permit is dead after the SUV she was driving was hit by a train. her father and four younger sisters also in the car she was driving when it was hit by a train near her home.
Sierra Thornton was dead at the scene. Her father was taken to Robinson Memorial Hospital while her sisters were taken to Akron Children's Hospital
Portage County Sheriff David Doak said Thornton was practicing with her family on a private road and became confused at the crossing when the train approached.
