The 11th Akron Marathon was more popular than ever.
Some 15,000 runners hit the streets of Akron on Saturday, says race director Brian Polen...who says the marathon just keeps growing.
"Last year, we raised the bar a little bit with the 10 year anniversary," Polen tells AkronNewsNow.com. "We weren't exactly sure what would happen this year, but here we are, growing again. It's really exciting for the city of Akron.
Polen says the fact that records fell on Saturday is no surprise to him.
"I fully expected numerous records to go down, and just as expected, we saw them fall," Polen says. "Both the men's, and the women's half record, also were set this year."
He says the weather was ideal, with a cool, dry morning for racing, giving way to warm sunshine for post-race celebration.
Planning is already underway for the 12th Akron Marathon, which is set for September 27, 2014.
