Longtime Summit County business Omnova Solutions announced Tuesday that it has completed an agreement to move its headquarters from Fairlawn to Beachwood.
Beachwood City Council and the Warrensville Heights Board of Education signed off on a tax incentive package that will bring the longtime Summit County business to the Chagrin Highlands Corporate Park by late 2014.
Omnova vice president of communications Sandi Noah said the company's current building across from Summit Mall does not fit its needs going forward.
"Our current building is expensive to operate and architecturally it doesn't promote teamwork and collaboration that's really so critical to our success," she said.
Noah specifically mentioned the large atrium in the current building that she said does not permit an open work environment. Omnova's new building is expected to be LEED-certified as an environmentally friendly facility.
Omnova's history can be traced back to General Tire, which was founded in Akron in 1915. Noah said while the company's headquarters will head to Beachwood, it will still have a strong presence in Summit County through its global technology center in Akron and specialty chemical plants in Akron and Mogadore.
"Those three facilities make up about 2/3 of our Northeast Ohio workforce, and we will definitely remain an important part of the Akron area," Noah said.
An Omnova release said around 70 new jobs could be created at the new headquarters on top of the ones already moving out of Fairlawn.
