Summit County Council approved a measure last night extending health insurance to domestic partners of county workers.
County Executive Russ Pry's chief of staff Jason Dodson tells The Beacon Journal the move is in line with county policy and is the right thing to do. He says the increase in cost should be minimal.
The benefits will be available to both same-sex and opposite-sex partners beginning January 1. Couples will have to prove that they are actually in a domestic partnership by showing documentation such as a lease in both of their names or driver's licenses with the same address.
Two council members cast no votes, Republicans Gloria Rodgers and Bill Roemer.
