So close, yet so far away. That's the predicament facing two would-be candidates who fell just short of having their names on the November ballot in Summit County.
Summit County Elections Director Masich tells AkronNewsNow "These two individuals were actually one signature short of the required number of 25 to make it to the November ballot. However each one of them brought up a situation where they believe they have a valid signature. Based on the addresses we have in our system we believe they do not."
Masich says the Elections Board is conferring with the Summit County Prosecutor's Office and the Secretary of State on the appeals by John Paul Paxton who wanted to run for Copley Township Trustee, and Thomas Gardner Jr. who filed to run for re-election as a Silver Lake Councilman. The Board will make a decision on whether they make the ballot after receiving decisions from the prosecutor and state.
The Board also certified four of six write-in candidates for the November election at its Tuesday meeting.
