News Release From The Wadsworth Police Department
Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder & Aggravated Arson
On November 27, 2012 at approximately 11:56 A.M. the Wadsworth Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 463 Wolf Avenue after a couple driving in the area stopped to investigate the smoke. Neighbors advised that an elderly man may be in the house but the fire was too intense to make entry through the front door. The man who reported the fire then went to the back of the home where he located the 81 year old resident and helped him out of the house. The elderly man was transported to the hospital where he was treated and released.
For the next several hours the Wadsworth Fire Department fought the fire with the assistance of the fire departments from: Rittman, Seville, Sharon Township, and Norton but the home was a total loss.
Detective Dawn Schismenos of the Wadsworth Police Department along with Investigator Brian Peterman of the Division of State Fire Marshal's Office immediately began an investigation into the cause of the fire.
After a lengthy investigation the case was presented to the Medina County Grand Jury earlier this month. Carol M. Gross, 44 years of age, was subsequently indicted for 1 count of Attempted Murder and 3 counts of Aggravated Arson, a felony of the first degree.
On August 20, 2013 Wadsworth Police detectives arrested Gross at her current residence of 1148 Ledgestone Drive in Wadsworth, and transported her to the Medina County Jail, where she remains with a $500,000.00 bond.
