A Ravenna burglar finds himself in jail after deciding to take a nap after breaking into a home in Ravenna Township.
Portage County Sheriff's Lieutenant Gregory Johnson tells AkronNewsNow what the homeowner discovered when he came home Monday afternoon. " hen he walked into his bedroom he found Mr. Applegate asleep in his bed, wearing his clothes, and also Mr. Applegate had the homeowners shotgun laying beside him on the bed."
Johnson says the homeowner was able to wrestle the gun away from the suspect 31-year old Dustin Applegate, and hold him until sheriff's deputies arrived.
Deputies determined that Applegate had allegedly broken into the house and gathered items from inside into a backpack before falling asleep.
Lt. Johnson says Applegate may have been under the influence of drugs. " The real concern is when we're dealing with people involving some of this chronic drug abuse is the erratic behavior, breaking into a house in broad daylight, and then crawling into bed. You can obviously tell that they're not thinking clearly," says Johnson
Applegate is charged with aggravated burglary.
