The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank is riding smooth, receiving a donation by a major tire maker with local ties.
Bridgestone has delivered 62 tires for the Foodbank's semi-trucks.
Foodbank president/CEO Dan Flowers says that the Foodbank's trucks don't just send around food to area food pantries...they go get it from a wide number of sources.
"We've got seven semis, and we will run at five states bringing food back," Flowers tells AkronNewsNow.com, "that's donated to the Foodbank and to our community to distribute to people in need."
Flowers says that the "in kind" donation to keep the trucks rolling is just as appreciated as cash donations.
"In non-profit in general, when you're trying to raise money to support a mission, it's always a challenge to have the resources that you need. Sometime the resources are hard to come by," Flowers says. "And with our most precious cargo really being our people, driving these trucks around...to have them be safe and have our trucks be safe, really means the world to us."
The tire donation was first unveiled at Canal Park's "Firestone Night" last month, and also included a $3,000 cash donation.
