AUDIO Six Arrested In Medina Mail Theft 7/30/2010 12:25:43 PM | Tina Kaufmann, AkronNewsNow.com The final suspect on the loose Friday morning turned himself over to Medina Police around noon. advertisement Medina Police now have all six suspects in custody believed to have been involved with last Friday night's mail box burglary at Medina's Main Post Office on North Court Street. The department posted a message on Facebook which led to the sixth suspect turning himself over to authorities. Medina Police detectives served a search warrant on Dawn Court, Unit 2 Thursday night and recovered items believed to be stolen in the robbery. Postal mail trays and additional mail evidence believed stolen in the burglary were found at a second location, police say.
Police Chief Patrick Berarducci says, "if you had mail stolen take precautions to protect against identity theft. It will take a while to determine the scope of the crime committed."
Berarducci details the arrests and how they came about
Shawn Shea, 18, Kourtney Mains, 20, Kyle Mains, 18, Anthony George, 18, and Mike Malin, have been initially charged with receiving stolen property. Additional charges are expected from the Medina County Grand Jury and the U.S. Attorney General's Office in Cleveland.
All five adults are lodged at the Medina County Jail pending their initial court appearance. One juvenile is in the custody of the Medina County Juvenile Detention Center.
The search warrant was issued by Medina County Commons Pleas Judge Christopher Collier.
Victims of this crime are asked to call United States Postal Inspector James Bogden at 216.443.4019 to report the theft of their individual mail items.
Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray's office offers an Identity Theft Repair Kit. To request a copy of the Identity Theft Repair Kit, call the Identity Theft Unit of the Crime Victims Assistance & Prevention section at (888) MYID-4-ME or (888) 694-3463.
In a classic example of being in the wrong place at the right time, Timothy King, 19, of Medina, was in the Dawn Court residence during the search. Detectives arrested him on an outstanding arrest warrant from Brunswick Police. He was later turned over to the Brunswick Police. Content © AkronNewsNow.com. All rights reserved.
