AUDIO More Racers Coming Down The Hill 3/9/2010 1:29:31 PM | Joe Jastrzemski, AkronNewsNow.com Another Soap Box Derby Organization is planning to move its National Championship race to Derby Downs later this year. advertisement The National Derby Rallies uses the same cars and generally has the same rules as the All-American Race, The Organization was formed back in 1977. Jerry Pearson, a member of the NDR Executive Committee says the Organization got together because the the All-American organization limits the number of times the driver could come down the hill. Pearson says the NDR encourages year-round Soap Box Derby Derby racing, And during their events, the NDR allows racers to come down the hill more than once. The NDR Championship event will take place at Derby Downs one week after the All-American race in July.
The NDR conducts about 70 races annually, across the United States. Plus, the group tries to attract racers between the ages of 7 and 21. The All-American groups caters to racers between the ages of 8 and 17. The National Derby Rallies is examining the possibility of making Akron is permanent home. Content © AkronNewsNow.com.
