Two major vacancies send city officials scrambling to attract others.

Kmart and Giant Eagle are leaving big empty spaces in the Great Oak Trail Plaza. The discount store is closing in a couple of months. The grocery store moved, but didn't disappear from Wadsworth. Giant Eagle moved near Wadsworth Crossings.

"Our hope is certainly to have some tenants in those areas shortly," said Mayor Robin Laubaugh. "We certainly like to have those businesses filled up. We've enjoyed that over the years and would like to get it back to that point again."

Laubaugh says the city will use grant money to pave the road in front of the plaza, which she hopes sends a signal that the city values the plaza and wants to attract more people to it. She

She says it's important to bring in new businesses to create jobs, but also to support other businesses in the area.
