Twinsburg's mayor says the short-term future of city finances could begin to unfold this week.

That's because the Chrysler stamping plant is scheduled to be auctioned Wednesday. Twinsburg Mayor Katherine Procop says the sale will be finalized in court on Thursday.

The plant served as a major component of Twinsburg's revenue base and they were surprised when Fiat announced that it's on the list of facilities that will close in 2010.  Prior to that, business and government officials - including representation from the White House - worked on ways to make sure the plant remained open.

In the end it was a business decision that Procop says was never controlled locally.

What will the sale mean to Twinsburg?

"Well, it will depend heavily on who is the final purchaser of the property," said Procop.  "We certainly are hoping that it will be somebody who's interested in continuing manufacturing here in the city."
