Cyanide Trial Continues
 2/8/2010 6:31:29 PM  |  Tina Kaufmann, AkronNewsNow.com

Emotional testimony for the family of Rosemarie Essa on Monday.

Her sister-law recalled how Dr. Yazeed Essa harshly treated Rosie's body when her mother asked her jewelry be removed.

NewsChannel5 was in the courtroom where jurors also heard of a note Essa included with a Valentine's Day gift from the Pajamagram company for a woman named Michelle. An employee read it to the jury which said, "I can't wait to see you in this. I have my own selfish reasons for getting you this gift. Next Valentine's Day will be all ours. I love you with all of my being, Yaz."

The gift and letter was delivered just 12 days before Rosemarie died.

Several more weeks remain in Essa's trial.

Yazeed Essa, the former AGMC emergency physician, is accused of giving his wife cyanide pills, which he allegedly disguised at calcium pills.

Rosemarie Essa's SUV crashed into an oncoming car on February 24, 2005. She had vomited inside and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Yazeed Essa left the country after her death and was arrested in 2006 in Cyprus as he attempted to clear customs after arriving from Beirut, Lebanon. He gave up a long extradition fight and was returned to Ohio last year.
