Click here. MULTIMEDIA 'Paranormal' Brings Spooks Home 12/28/2009 11:45:56 PM | Ryan Haidet, AkronNewsNow.com The little scary movie that gripped the nation by its throat is released on DVD today. "Paranormal Activity," which was shot in the director's home for just $15,000, scared more than $107 million out of moviegoers at the end of its box office run. advertisement If you haven't seen the spook-fest yet, I highly suggest you do. In the midst of torture-porn horror movies like the "Saw" series, "Paranormal Activity" is actually one that knows how to scare you. Away from the simple gross-out sequences horror fans have become familiar with, "Paranormal" hits you hard with simple methods of fright. Subtle Sounds. Slight movements. Shadows. That's all it takes to build up enough suspense before the big climax. The film follows a young couple who believe they are haunted by a spirit. They set up a night-vision camera at the edge of their bed to see if they can capture any evidence to prove the haunting. And what they capture is absolutely creepy -- but I don't want to spoil anything here. Watch the trailer, that will give you enough of a terrifying tease. I had the opportunity to see this movie in theaters twice, and the experience was similar to when I saw the "Blair Witch Project." People were squeling and shielding their eyes.
But comparing the two, "Paranormal" is a far superior movie. It sticks with you long after it's over -- especially when night falls and the time comes to grab some ZZZs. It gets your mind racing. What are those creaks you're hearing downstairs? What was that light that danced across the wall? Is it just the house settling or is there something else going on?

It worked extremely well on the big screen, let's just see how effective the little horror movie is at home.
Can you watch it alone? Sweet dreams. Two other horror movies are released on DVD today -- "A Perfect Getaway" and "Jennifer's Body" starring Megan Fox, which I thought was a witty new take on horror. Too bad it was a box office dud.
WATCH the trailer for "Jennifer's Body:" Next Tuesday, "The Final Destination" hits DVD shelves followed by Rob Zombie's "Halloween 2" on January 12.
It may be winter, but horror is still lurking around every corner.
