Why? advertisement Knapp says it's not just because there are new entertainers - it's also because First Night Akron veteran artists are offering something new this year. Some will have a new song, others new costumes or for others it may be a new interactive component. Knapp says that after 14 years, it's important to make sure it's not the same old thing.
"People definitely have said to us, 'Oh, I have been before and it's cold outside and I don't think I'm going to venture out this year,' but we really want to give people a reason to venture out," said Knapp. "This is something they've never seen before and they really should be here to celebrate with their neighbors and their community and their families."
Knapp says the series of events - all taking place in downtown Akron - attracts 13,000 - 16,000 people who can attend dozens of events for a single admission price of $10.
Knapp, by the way, isn't accepting any excuses from people who say they were there last year. She says it's not possible to visit every venue in one night, plus the pledge from every artist that they'll offer something new this year. Too cold? Not good enough, says Knapp, who reminds everyone that while fireworks and the official New Year Countdown take place outside, nearly all the First Night events take place indoors. Metro bus service is included to take people from one venue to another. Content © AkronNewsNow.com. All rights reserved.
