VIDEO Is The Blade Of 'Saw' Getting Dull? 11/9/2009 8:40:59 AM | Ryan Haidet, AkronNewsNow.com Ah, the Saw movies. Brutal, bloody and intense with twist-filled endings that will leave your jaw swinging on the dirty, popcorn-covered theater floor. advertisement But the last few installments of the series have been so difficult to follow that fans have been turned off and looking to other horror movies like Paranormal Activity. In its opening weekend, Saw VI brought in the smallest box office sales of all the films in the series at just $14.1 million. That seemed a bit strange to me since its previous entry, Saw V strangled out more than $30 million in ticket sales during opening weekend, according to Box Office Mojo. I went and watched the movie this weekend to see why this installment's blade isn't as sharp. To be honest, it's a much better movie than I expected. I'm not saying this is the next Gone With The Wind or even in the same status as the original Saw movie, but it's a fun, gory ride. Whereas the last few Saw movies were so extremely confusing with little story supporting it, Saw VI actually reflects the current situation many Americans are dealing with -- issues with health insurance. The Jigsaw killer is upset and his minions are executing a plan on those involved in denying health care to those who need it most. It certainly takes a strong stance when the head-honcho of a major insurance company is forced to choose the fate of his co-workers just as he does with those of his customers. With all-new traps, the torture is absolutely horrific and gruesome. Some scenes are extremely tough to watch with your eyes wide open. Finally, a Saw movie that is fun to watch again -- but fans haven't really caught on to that fact yet, and for good reason. I think the slow attendance is strictly to blame on the all-around crummy Saw V. Truly one of the worst horror films in the last decade, Saw V insulted fans of the series with nonsense and bad acting. So far, Saw VI has only brought in $26.2 million since opening on October 23. Hopefully fans turn out and give this entry a chance. It's not a great movie, but it's far superior to the fourth or fifth installments. WATCH the trailer for Saw 6:
And don't think this movie's poor performance is the death of the torture-filled saga. LionsGate has already announced Saw VII, VIII and IX. And if that's not enough, part VII is reportedly going to be shot in 3D.
I will never forget the shock I felt at the end of the first Saw movie. I hope they can bring that feeling back for future releases. For reviews of other horror movies, check out AkronScreams.com.
What are your thoughts on the Saw movies? Have you had enough, or do you want more?
