FirstEnergy Gets Approval 11/6/2009 11:14:58 AM | Chris Keppler, AkronNewsNow.com Two nuclear power plants owned by FirstEnergy will keep operating another 20 years. advertisement The Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved a 20-year license extention. One license was set to expire in 2016 and the other in 2027. The company submitted applications for the 20-year extension in 2007.
"As a result of the license extension, the additional 20 years of operation means Beaver Valley will remain an important source of safe, reliable and clean electricity for the region while providing good paying jobs and financial support to the community," said Beaver Valley Vice President Paul Harden.
The plants are capable of generating enough electricity to supply power to 1.4-million homes. Content © AkronNewsNow.com. All rights reserved.
