AUDIO Summit Opens More Buyouts 11/2/2009 10:48:29 PM | Mike Ward, AkronNewsNow.com Summit County is showing some flexibility in its continuing battle to keep costs down. advertisement County council Monday approved a one-time deadline extension allowing five more employees to sign up for the Voluntary Separation Plan - the cost saving measure that buys out workers so they'll leave county employment. County executive Russ Pry says when they heard some employees might have changed their mind after the deadline, they reached out and said "one last chance" - offering the buyouts for one final time via E-mail. Pry says letting the workers take part after October 26's deadline won't change any of the future deadlines for the plan to take effect.
County council also approved the structure for "Cost Savings Days" in 2010, where department heads can call for unpaid furlough days for employees. If the departments call for it, there would be a maximum of 120 or 160 mandated furlough hours in 2010. Content © AkronNewsNow.com. All rights reserved.
