AUDIO Halloween Lurks Around The Corner 10/29/2009 2:45:12 PM | Ryan Haidet, AkronNewsNow.com We are approaching the finish line on the most haunted holiday of the year -- Halloween returns Saturday. Little ghouls and goblins will be lining the streets hoping to fill their plastic pumpkin pails to the brim with sugary goodies. advertisement But while Halloween and Trick-Or-Treating is a very fun event, safety measures should be taken. Experts suggest getting your kids a mask that doesn't obstruct a child's vision. But they say makeup is a better option. When it comes to walking along the roadways to Trick-Or-Treat, it's probably a good idea to bring along a flashlight, reflective tape and a cell phone.
But the safety doesn't end there -- when the little monsters return home with all the candy, experts suggest every piece be inspected. Anything unwrapped should be thrown away.
When it comes time to chow on all of the candy, nutritionists say to treat the Halloween treats as dessert. To keep the kids from chewing on all of the candy while they're out Trick-Or-Treating, it might be a good idea to give them some snacks or food before they start knocking on doors. That way they aren't as hungry or tempted to eat the candy.
But Halloween isn't all about Trick-Or-Treating and candy. Many people search for ghosts on All Hallow's Eve. Mary Ann Winkowski, who is from Northeastern Ohio says she has been seeing ghosts all around since she was a kid. She says strange events with spirits typically happen during a week of a full moon.
If ghosts don't freak you out, the current economy probably does. With budgets pulled tighter than a hangman's noose, families are getting creative this Halloween by recycling old costumes into something new. Or even better -- they're making their Power Rangers or vampire costumes out of stuff around the house. While Halloween symbolizes death in many ways, some couples use the day to join their clammy hands in marriage. What a great way to start out a life together -- happily (or horribly) ever after!
