 10/23/2009 5:57:08 AM  |  Ryan Haidet, AkronNewsNow.com

Press Release:

City officials chose to reschedule Halloween activities from October 31 after it was discovered the original time period conflicted with the annual McKinley-Massillon football game.

Canton officials originally chose October 31 to coincide with the time chosen by Stark County government officials for children Trick-Or-Treating outside city limits. October 31 is also the official day of Halloween.

"The McKinley-Massillon game is a time-honored tradition in Canton, and we don't want residents to have to choose between the two activities," said Mayor Healy after the schedule change.  "This solution also allows us to avoid overburdening our police department during the time the two events would have overlapped, thereby allowing everyone to stay safe and have fun during both activities."

For more information about Trick-Or-Treat activities, residents should contact the Canton Police Department at (330) 489-3100.
