Recall Costs Yet To Be Tallied
 7/9/2009 12:15:18 PM  |  Chris Keppler, AkronNewsNow.com

It may take at least a couple more months before the actual costs are determined.

It's expected to be in the neighborhood of $175,000, but Summit County Board of Elections Deputy Director Bryan Williams says he'll know for sure later this year.

"We generally do certification anywhere from 3 to 4 months after an election for the charge back,"
said Williams.

He says it takes awhile because there are numerous bills that are sent to the board of elections that are first channeled through other boards.  For example, custodian costs at schools or libraries that are used as polling places are approved by those respective boards, then passed on to the county.  There are also the costs of ballots, poll workers and other items.

The Summit County Board of Elections can recoup the money because of a relatively new state law that allows them to "charge back" the cost of a special election.

Williams says you can only notify the fiscal office of the entity being invoiced one time, so it's important to make sure that all costs have been appropriately added to the list.

Nope, they are too busy actively stalking current council members...clearly not worried about wasting tax dollars. Still riveted by the 3-1 loss...

Forcedinakron,
Some workers will not get "boned" by the deal, the police and fire usually seem to make out well. I don't know about the others though.

I am so glad to see that OUR tax money has been used for such a worthy cause, I mean just to confirm that citizens like the current mayor. Love it I tell you!!!!!! Now if only I could afford to buy groceries and gas from the same paycheck, that would be a good use of funds.

Who said the exercise of democracy was going to be cheap? It is periodically necessary to have to undergo
such an event. So all the detractors of the effort to recall need to understand the motivation behind that.
Though the recall failed and the mayor's supporters are busy gloating, the fact remains, democracy is not
cheap - nor should it be. At least perhaps, the mayor
may now realize he doesn't have the support of the
entire city as the supporters would have you think.
