AUDIO UA, China Collaboration Continues 7/1/2009 6:10:05 PM | Tina Kaufmann, AkronNewsNow.com Collaboration continues between the University of Akron and China, with the signing of a new agreement to benefit students from both areas. advertisement UA President Dr. Luis Proenza and Peking University's president have signed an agreement that will extends students studies to law, education, engineering and general sciences. Students can "study abroad, spend some time in one of the most dynamic, cultural economic areas of the world, do collaborative research with professors in that area. And here in Akron, it will give the opportunity to work with visiting engineers that come from China," explains Proenza. For the past 15 years, the two higher education institutions have had a joint Ph.D program in polymer engineering, Proenza explains.
UA's Confucius Institute has brought opportunities here for students to learn Chinese instructions first-hand and about the country's culture. This new relationship will provide opportunities for UA and Peking University students to study abroad, with the same tuition fees, minus the travel expenses, and do collaborative research with professors in the area. Peking University sends about 2,000 students overseas and gets about the same in return from other countries looking to study at, what Proenza calls, "one of China's premier universities."
