AUDIO Can They Work Together?

The Fraternal Order of Police is hopeful they will begin a new journey with Mayor Plusquellic's office.

There's nothing set in stone of what will be done differently, but with the recall behind them, the FOP is hoping they and Mayor Plusquellic's office can work together.

FOP Lodge 7 President Paul Hlynsky hopes communication will be improved with Mayor Plusquellic's office, "we also expect him to work with us. He needs to understand we aren't going to shy away from issues if we feel strongly about something - then that's going to be our position. Certainly, nobody should be taking it personally. If we don't agree on something, than we don't agree..."

Hlynsky is referencing the narrow vote by FOP members in support of last Tuesday's recall election.

The Mayor has cut off communications before and Hlynsky hopes this will be a new beginning for the two to work together. "The FOP will do our part, but it takes two people to tango," says Hlynsky.

The APD does a great job, and should be appreciated for it, but... well there is always a but isn't there...

If they (FOP) try so hard to work with the city, then why did they NOT accept the change in City Picnic Day? When I read the story about it, every union in the city accepted the loss of the holiday known as City Picnic Day except the FOP and Fire. Why is that? Why do they feel they could not accept the loss of a holiday when every other employee did it to help save the city's overtime costs? The story said that city employees got a personal day in exchange for the holiday, so it is not like they gave up a day off, just MONEY. That is must be what it is about, the MONEY, not working with the city.

Paddywhack,
There is a difference between being respectful and cowtowing to every whim, but YES respect has been earned by these hard working men and women that serve our community.
