Last night, the Akron school board was the latest public agency to approve a resolution supporting the mayor, and opposing the recall effort on today's Akron ballot.

Akron school superintendent David James calls Plusquellic "a partner", who's very willing to work with the school district on items they feel are important.

James says the district has a good relationship with the mayor.

Akron school superintendent David James talks about the relationship between the district and Mayor Plusquellic

And he says he's not surprised that the Akron district is one of a number of local public agencies supporting the mayor.

APS's finances are in pretty good shape, but that is not why I am posting. Akron Board of Education Policy reads "Employees of the School District shall not engage, during the course of their employment, in any activities that support or oppose one or more candidates, issues or a particular point of view during working hours." Since Board members are paid for meetings, I think of them as employees. I think it is rather sad that they violate their own policy by taking an official position on the recall. I think it is fine for them and Superintendent James to take positions as individuals, but not as a group. This is coming from someone who is against the recall.

thank you Cloverine...i did not know that about employees of the school district...

i'm basing my statement on APS' finances on what they have said-that they are facing major deficits in the next few years...

APSs are as big a failure as Mayor Don. All those new buildings and huge budget they spend to educate and administrate that had produced students who are in Academic failure and can't pass the state graduation test?

Don't listen to the failed APS - vote to recall Mayor Don today!!!

Old Man I think you need to look at the Ohio Education statistics as a whole and you will see that it is not just Akron with the problems in educating their students. It is an Ohio problem!

Sounds to me like APS waited to see who was leaning towards winning before taking a stance...
