WKYC.com reports that a motorcyclist from Elyria was struck by a deer and a car. Brian Rogers was heading down Lagrange Road in his 2001 Harley Davidson when a deer crossed the road. It was struck by a Toyota Prius heading the opposite direction. The deer bounced off the Prius and hit the motorcycle. Rogers was ejected and hit a 2001 Ford Explorer. The motorcycle continued down the road and was hit by a 2003 Dodge Stratus.

Authorities told WKYC that Rogers was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Prius was taken to Elyria Memorial Hospital for minor cuts on his arms and hands.

The deer ran off after the accident.

I agree that he should of had a helmet on. I also think that no one was paying attention to their surroundings. There were four different drivers envolved. You need to be aware of everything that goes on around you at all times. No texting nor talking on the phone and leave a distance between you and the other vehicles around you at all times so you can counter steer and avoid things that get in your path.

When will the law change to make them wear helmets like drivers have to wear seat belts? So many lives could be saved if only they wore helmets.

deer can come out of nowhere. If the deer had come through the windshield the car driver would be the dead one. I do agree that helmets should be the law though.

Condolences to Brian Roger's family and friends.

With that said, I wonder if a big, gas guzzling, American made car of chrome and steel would have finished off the deer rather than a hybrid that bounces the deer into the path of another traveler.

@Wayne
That's kind of a misplaced swipe at foreign cars in light of the situation, isn't it? Worse is the possibility that you're serious about the irrelevant American vs. hybrid comparison. Last time I conducted the experiment, deer bounce off fast-moving steel about the same as they do off those rubber-bound hybrids. Ridiculous.

Apologies all around to the Roger family.

Yes, it should be a law to wear helmets.

Be smarter than the law, do not ride motor cycles, and watch out for deers while driving...

Helmet laws are an infringement of my civil liberties (just like 1,000 other laws). Personally, I choose to where a helmet... Brian choose not to. It's a personal choice - and you accept the risks when you make the choice. Don't force your beliefs on me and I won't force my beliefs on you.
